[Well, John condoned not tucking in his shirts on Fridays and Saturdays if at all it was possible to do so. But he was dressed in a casual yet very nice outfit. He wasn't expecting to see another student of this school so casual.
So this is what they meant by different? To even be let into this school you had to have some amazing music ability. So at least perhaps he had that going for him? Definitely not so much the appearance. Nonetheless, John was brought up to be courteous.
