[Your name is John Egbert, and you have recently joined a gym to get back into shape. You determined that if you were ever going to make yourself look decent to anyone you would have to tone your muscles and and lose your cute little baby pudge.

You have taken a wide interest in a couple of areas around the gym, mainly the cardio workouts, the weights, and the pool. There was something about going to take a swim around eight-thirty in the evening. It was usually just you and the highly attractive lifeguard- you think his name is Dave? But you aren't too sure.

On this particular night you had been thinking far too hard, and hadn't put your glasses back on quite yet before you walked back around the edge of the pool. For some reason you think this was a wonderful idea. A fantastic way to end your night. But that isn't seeming to be the case. On your walk back to the edge you trip over a pool noodle, hit your elbow and side on the edge of the pool and fall in.

The world is kind of black. There isn't much you can do.]

[John smirks right back. They've become best bros; however, John still has a die hard man crush on Dave. Nope. That never changed. John will just wait for Dave to say something before he backs his car out. It might just be important.]

That's flattering, but you don't have to do that. I'm but a simple Texan man.

[He smiles though. It's less a smirk or grin but an actual smile.]

[John is so glad neither of them have anything to do tonight.]

[He's oblivious to your feelings, John.]

[He wants to tell Dave so bad, but for right now he's going to drive and talk. FINALLY BACKING OUT. He hopes maybe the next thing he says could be a hint, or if maybe he's being too vague about this situation.....]

Maybe I'm vying for your affection or something like that.

You're the only guy I hang out with regularly.

[It's impossible for Dave to not catch on, but he didn't like playing guessing games. So he was gonna play dumb still.]

[He doesn't know how to even say this. He is inches away from an actual confession. But he's close to chickening out.]

How would you even feel if I said I was actually vying for your affection. Like. That was a real thing that has been happening.

[Dave doesn't say anything for a moment.]

I don't know. It's never been a thing that's come up.

[You aren't getting an answer out of him with that weak excuse of a vague confession.]

[Well, they have a moment and John is still driving. So he might as well be out with this.]

Dude, I have had such a schoolboy crush on you since about a month after I first started coming to this gym. [There. It came up.]

You know there are easier and more direct ways to ask me out on a date. Instead of playing this roundabout guessing game.

As long as our first date isn't now and to McDonald's.

Nah. This can be considered a pre-date to our first date. How does Saturday sound? If not Saturday then Friday.

[John is so happy right now. Fuck. Yes.]

I can do Saturday. It gives me plenty of time to stare in the mirror and consider what I should wear. You don't realize how hard it is to choose underwear for the first date. [Now you're imagining Dave in just underwear aren't you.]

[Maybe he is. Maybe he isn't. There is no telling what John is thinking about. He is totally thinking about the underwear. And Dave's abs. But you know.]

Yeah, that must be a real dilemma. Where would we even go? I was thinking a movie, or to the park or something cliche romantic like that.

I'm not that picky. Whatever you think will completely get me to swoon. I am but a simple Texan man with simple tastes.

[He chuckles lightly.]

[He pulls into McDonalds. He assumes they're getting out and going into the dining area. They always do.]

I'm glad you're telling me this. I have a couple of ideas. Maybe you will completely swoon over them, and me. Then we could totally be an item. [John says this and hopes Dave was paying noooo attention. Because he sure did let that fly out of his trap.]

Maybe I'm already swooning and hoping you'll take me right here and now.

[He just smiles a bit as he gets out and closes the door.] I'm starving and I need some chicken mcnuggets, dude.

If you're already swooning and we're just at McDonald's. Just wait until we get inside.

[He follows suit. Opening the door for Dave when they got up there. JOHN WAS TOTALLY GONNA PAY FOR DAVE'S MEAL. Because yeah being a gentleman.]

I don't think I could handle it.

[Dave steps inside.] What a gentleman. Even opening the door for me. Ain't got that since movin' away from the South.

Get ready to swoon.

[John follows and then steps in front of Dave at the ordering counter.] Order whatever you like, it's on me tonight.

You're going to make me fat, John. You can't just tell a guy he can order whatever he wants.

[Not that Dave usually ordered a lot in the first place, but still.]

You're gorgeous. There isn't any way eating a big meal right now will make you any less so.

[Which means Dave please order something good and filling. John is offering.]

How are you not drowning with admirers at this point is beyond me. I'm a lucky guy.

[Dave kind of just orders his usual though. Christ, Egbert. It's not like he's going to order everything just because you're offering to pay. He just wants dinner.]

[He shrugs his shoulders, then he orders his own and pays for the both of them.]

Because I turn people down. No big deal.

[He certainly wouldn't turn Dave down though.]
