[Your name is John Egbert, and you have recently joined a gym to get back into shape. You determined that if you were ever going to make yourself look decent to anyone you would have to tone your muscles and and lose your cute little baby pudge.

You have taken a wide interest in a couple of areas around the gym, mainly the cardio workouts, the weights, and the pool. There was something about going to take a swim around eight-thirty in the evening. It was usually just you and the highly attractive lifeguard- you think his name is Dave? But you aren't too sure.

On this particular night you had been thinking far too hard, and hadn't put your glasses back on quite yet before you walked back around the edge of the pool. For some reason you think this was a wonderful idea. A fantastic way to end your night. But that isn't seeming to be the case. On your walk back to the edge you trip over a pool noodle, hit your elbow and side on the edge of the pool and fall in.

The world is kind of black. There isn't much you can do.]

Oh. A social life? Right, no. I don't really outwardly socialize with people. [He has friends. Just, he's always really kept to himself. John goes to work, he goes to the gym, he goes home. His life is pretty repetitive.]

I appreciate the slightly homosexual maneuver. I'm not dead because of it. [John shrugged.] Better than any I've had, well, from what I can remember. I was kind of blacked out.

[He shakes his head.] Is there a class here or something? It would probably be pretty useful since I'm around a lot.

You seemed like the type to always have friends. [That strikes him as weird. John seemed pretty fucking friendly.]

An actual kiss would have blown you right out of the water anyways. [Wow, is he flirting with this guy he barely knows? Oh well.] It's my job to make sure people don't drown.

There's one at the recreational center near here. We do classes once a month. I'm volunteering this month to teach.

Oh, I have friends. I just don't go out a lot. Work and then working out kind of wears a dude out. You know? [He is really friendly, and could be socialable if he wanted to be.]

[This earned an eyebrow raise from John. Was Dave flirting with him right now? He kind of wants to entertain this thought. Like, really he does.] You think so? I mean I've had a couple of good kisses in my life. [Look at his little grin Dave, he is totally indulging your thoughts right now.]

I'll make sure to sign up for one of those, sounds like a useful skill to me.

That's a shame. You seem like you'd be the life of the party. Aren't people supposed to enjoy themselves while they're young or whatever?

[Dave chuckles a bit as he starts cleaning up the stuff in the pool.] That's only because you haven't had a good kiss. You've mistaken what a good kiss actually is.

Well, it's plenty useful. Saved you, so yeah.

Thank you for the assumption. Well, I enjoy myself enough.

[He kind of chuckles.] I've never had someone show me what a good kiss is, so forgive me if I'm mistaken.

I'll sign up for it, maybe the next available even.

You still seem like a socialite to me. I haven't had a conversation with a complete stranger that's this friendly in awhile.

You'll find someone who'll blow you away. [Dave needs to stop. John is a stranger and he's on the clock. This wasn't professional at all.]

You'll get a neat little certificate and everythin'.

I'm just friendly? That really isn't anything new about me.

[John is seriously on the verge of running out. He's kind of blushing.] Nah. I'm not sure if that is really ever going to happen.

[Oh. Cute. A certificate.] I'll frame it and hang it on the wall. I'll be the most proud of myself.

[He finally puts away the equipment and locks up the closet door.] That's stupid. You aren't a bad looking guy.


Well, they just need to issue it so that you have documentation that you're trained in it.

But I need to shoo you out of the pool area now. Gotta lock up so they can take over.

Documentation or not, saving people sounds like a pretty swank skill to have. [But not when you are clumsy like John.]

No problem. [John picks up his bags, and what does he do this time instead of running off embarrassed to his car? He actually waits.]

[He just gives the other a wink over his shades.]

It isn't all that amazing. You kind of breathe into peoples' mouths. Some people come in thinking they're getting credentials to make out, but we tend to hit them down a few pegs with the intro.

[Dave has his bag slung over his shoulder as he heads out.] Thought you'd be gone by now.

[John decides not to answer to all the CPR stuff. Yeah, he knows what it is. No he doesn't want credentials to make out, he's sure he already has them somewhat.

But he does snicker at the people who do think make out skills come from CPR training.]

Well, I've run off every other time because I wasn't too usre what to say to you. This time I think I'm okay.

[Dave put his hands to his hip, a grin in place.]

Alright, Egbert. Just how long have you been trying to talk to me. I didn't bite when I gave you CPR. I'm not going to bite now. Unless you like them when they bite. [He chuckles. Half joking, half being serious.]

[longwinded]

[Oh god, this is so embarrassing. Why are you trying to embarrass him Dave.]

A couple of months. The first two months I didn't even say anything to you, and then I kind of fell in the pool and you saved me. So that was literally the first time I ever spoke to you. [Yeah. He was thinking of absconding. Running far away. Hiding under the nearest rock. This was Dave he was talking to. Holy shit dude.]

[knightime]

That's a lot of time to devote to a no name lifeguard who works at your local gym.

[Dave just continues to grin. He thinks this is pretty amusing to say the least.] Well, it's great we breached the great divide. But seriously, I'm just another dude who's working to keep his stay. There ain't much different between you and I.

[longwinded]

I know. It's kind of creepy. But I was trying to figure out something to say to you. I've never known to say.

[Dave, stop doing this to him. He's going to want to run. This is so awkward.] But there is. You know how to be social. I really don't. It's kind of dumb. Maybe I'm just weird.

[knightime]

As long as you aren't some sociopath who's actually out to kill me, it's cool. It's like that admiring shit that happens in high school or something. We all went through that before.

[Dave shrugs.] You'd be surprised. [Dave makes acquaintances. Not friends.]

Nah, not a sociopath. I never really had anyone in high school I admired. So I guess for my first time admiring someone I'm doing a pretty good job.

[Whoops he totally said that outloud.] Hey, you deal with the public a lot more than I do.

You could have went really creepy like stalking me and following me home. That would make you pretty damn creepy.

It's just my job. [It doesn't necessarily mean anything.]

[John laughs, and it's unintentional. He just found that really funny.] Then I guess we can be glad that I'm not really creepy then. Just another dude who goes to the gym, that would be me.

[John checks his phone. It's nearly 9 o' clock.] I have to get going. I enjoy your company, honestly. But I have a few things I need to get done around the apartment.

[And John is going to be the lamest dude in the entire world right now. He takes a McDonald's receipt from his pocket, fishes a pen out of his bag and writes down his cell number, promptly handing it to his new maybe friend.] Before you say anything, yes that is on a McDonald's receipt. Yes, that McDouble was fucking delicious.

It's not like the only reason you go here is to watch me sit and people watch all day anyways.

[Dave takes the receipt from him.] Hey, Mickey Dees is the shit. Can't fault you for going there to get food. People who don't like chicken mcnuggets are stupid and don't know what they're missing.

There is no guilt what so ever in eating a ten piece mcnuggets, or a mcdouble.

[John has to resist linger. But he waves his good bye and goes home. Not to return until another day.

but we are letting time pass because we are quality roleplayers.

This point in time, Dave and John have become close. They've hung out together, they text nearly every second they can get a chance, and John still walks Dave out to his car after his shift. Sometimes, like tonight John is going to suggest they go grab something to eat.]

It's Tuesday, you wanna go ever to McDee's or Sonic? Cause I don't think I'm going to be free any other day this week to go out after you get off.

[knightime]

Sonic only has good drinks and I'm fucking starving. Obviously we're gonna get Mickey Dees. Their fries are the shit.

[Dave had been more scarce at the gym as of late. His shifts seem to be cut and he seems to be doing something else on his time. Dave won't talk about it though as much as John asks.]

You aren't going to be around tomorrow? It's my last shift for this week. They really cut back on my hours.

[longwinded]

Right then, are we driving separate? Am I riding with you, are you riding with me? What is going down here? The fries are waiting for us.

[Dave was surprisingly good at not really having to say anything to get John to do something. He nods.] I'll be here tomorrow then. No problem.

Why are they cutting you back? That isn't cool at all.

[knightime]

I'm fine with anything. Whatever is easier on you. I got late shift tomorrow so I'm sleeping in like it ain't nobody's business.

[John. You are such a loser.] Cool.

Eh. It happens. I've had other stuff on my plate so I can't do some available shifts that I used to before.

[longwinded]

I'll drive then. [Which is when he turns on his heel and starts heading towards his own car which is parked exactly four spaces away from Dave's.

He admits he's a loser.] I can add an extra workout day to the week. No harm in that.

Well, I'm sure they'll up your hours again eventually when your availability clears back up!
