[It was a centuries old rivalry. As cliche as the entire werewolves versus vampires thing sounds, it's always been a thing. Marked lands and certain territories. John had heard stories as a pup about the rivaling clan, their clan leader mysterious as always. Disappearing for months on end, and coming out only when he absolutely had to.

As John grew he became more curious, venturing on the lines as young adult, and going as far as crossing them when he was almost mature. He wanted to take risks, as next in line to be the Alpha dog he needed to know the lines well. He wanted to know the territories.

It's the dead of winter now as John is exploring, sniffing out where the lines diverge and the territories divide. He's crossed into their ground with full knowledge that he is there. Usually as long as he isn't causing any trouble they don't bother him, but their seem to be a pair of watchful eyes on him tonight as he heads into a moonlit clearing.]

[Dave doesn't get up from his spot, just lying there.]

You get old and grumpy when you've survived this long. [He specifically doesn't say lived. He hasn't been alive in a long time. He can't really call this existence a life either. Not anymore at least.]

[John crosses his legs. They could just sit here for a while until Dave stopped being offended.]

You can be old, but you know, you can drop the attitude. Sure I don't have very good manners. Isn't a reason to be grumpy.

The first time you wanted to fight me. The second time you rushed me and broke a few of my ribs. Now you've tackled me to the ground again and wouldn't let up.

I think I'm a bit justified in not being too fond of you right now. [Dave just can't stop being sassy either.]

The first time I was being stupid, the second time I was angry, this time it was mainly out of curiosity.

No reason to dislike me. [SHRUG SHRUG.]

You really just don't want me to hate you.

[He raises an eyebrow.] It doesn't change the fact that in three meetings, you've done nothing to leave a very good impression.

Hate is a strong term, you know. [His father told him that. He also told him that no matter what they had in place with the vampires, you never outright hate them.]

[He finally gets to his feet. Dawn will be coming soon. He has to go soon.] Aren't there other people you rather be bothering though? Someone who does want a wolf going through puberty following them around?

[No he'll be sad if you leave him. But he understands. Dawn and vampires. Not so good.]

Not really. I'm the son of the leader, everyone would rather take me down. So I kind of go off on my own.

If you had manners, you might do better. Challenging strangers and being a little shit ain't doing you favors, kid.

[He glances at him.] Bye. [No see you later. He doesn't intend to see him again.]

[Why is it everywhere he goes he gets scolded? He gets scolded so much. Ah, well. Guess there really is no helping it. He won't stop Dave from leaving. For the longest time he'll actually leave Dave alone.

When I say the longest time. I mean like an entire month. Wow. Aren't you proud of him Dave?

The next time Dave is confronted with John- he doesn't pounce on him. Nope. Good mutt. He'll actually stride up next to the vampire in his wolf form. MANNERS??? HE HAS THEM??? But hey if he wants to tousle he won't argue.]

[It was a good month. It was nice and quiet and he quite enjoyed it.

He was also enjoying himself until John showed up. Dave might not need to eat actual food, but that doesn't mean he doesn't enjoy it. Dave is on a roof with apple juice and a sandwich. Why would you bother him when he's enjoying himself?]

[He's not even doing anything you stupid smelly vampire. He's just sitting there, watching the sky. Man that sandwich sure does smell good though. Dave should break off a piece for John. He forgot to eat before he came up here.

He might wag his tail a little.

[Dave lets out a suffering sigh.]

Why do you keep coming back? I thought you'd be tired of being shot down at this point. Go make friends with people from your clan or something. [Leave him aloneeeeee.

Nope. He's gonna keep eating his sandwich.]

[John sits on his haunches. He really doesn't feel like explaining himself. He isn't really causing any harm this time. He's even behaving like a good dog should.

Wait for it this is gonna go so badly......]

You not gonna talk now? You seemed pretty talkative to me before. Trying not to fuck this up or something?

[longwinded]

[Okay fine, he'll morph and stop being an animal. Just for you. He just kind of shrugs.]

I wanted to see you, that was it. Make sure you were still around.

I don't plan on leaving town. [Dave glances at him before taking a swig of his apple juice.] This is where I stay. [Again, not mentioning that he lives or anything.] Until something or someone vanquishes me, I'll be here.

[longwinded]

Well, this is your clan's territory after all. [And this dumb dog keeps trampling all over it.] Nice to know you won't leave, though.

I've been here too long to consider new turf. [He doesn't care much for change. It'll hit a certain status quo eventually.] And if this is my clan's territory, why do you insist on invading it?

[longwinded]

Because you're strong, you're a guy who defeated me. I guess you can say I'm kind of hooked on that belief you have to truly thwart someone in battle for you to get even again.

I feel like the last time was a bit unfair of me, I let my rage blind me.

What? So you want to fight me again. Look. I don't really have interest in unneeded fighting. I get enough trouble getting food and dealing with people that don't like me.

The last thing I really need is to get unnecessarily injured because you want to get even.

I mean, maybe eventually? Not right now of course there would be no reason to at this very second. [Hrk.]

So I'm guessing you don't really like me hanging around.

Don't take it personally. I don't like anyone hanging around me.

I've had no interest for human contact in a damn long while. [Dave finishes his apple juice and gets to his feet.] I have no need for it.
