[John met Dave at a fashion shoot two years ago. Kanaya had been holding a fashion show and Dave had agreed to be one of the models in it, this is when John was trying to dabble in photography as the person behind the camera. He found he really had no talent for it at all, instead he graduated with a degree photo processing. So Kanaya had kept him on board after they found a new photographer.

That's when John officially met Dave. Dave was a special kind of guy. No college degree, just a knack for what he loved to do. John had seen some of Dave's work through some hipster tumblr blog. The photos had been obviously raw, no processing- but he had to admit Dave has this special ability to take the PERFECT shot. It makes him jealous that he decided to not pursue the career behind the camera.

But as talented as Dave may be, he's also like any other person John works with. He's kind of picky when it comes to how his photos are processed and while John sometimes gets some of the shots processed how Dave wants them. He doesn't always get it right the first time. Which makes Dave complain and become high maintenance which in return causes John to complain about Dave to Rose. Today he decides to bring three different options. The model was Rose, an absolutely beautiful girl who she knew through Kanaya. Who better to model your clothing line than your girlfriend, right?]

Hey, Dave.

[He walks into the studio with three of her prints, all processed differently. It looks like John has been behind the computer for quite some time being as careful as he could to process them the three different ways he knows Dave likes. He never thought of even trying anything new.

When he approaches Dave he holds them out.] I finished three separate prints, and one of them has to go to Kanaya by tomorrow evening. Which one do you like best?

[John puts away his phone when Dave gets off of his.]


Everything good? Well, by "motherfucking dicks" I'm going to assume something is up. [By that text from Kanaya he just got. He assumes he and Dave are going to the same place tomorrow.]

I have to go in tomorrow. They probably just want me to be the model for what ugly piece of shit you are and have some blond bombshell to be compare what you can be. I don't know why they're making me come in so early though.

[He's not looking forward to this.]

[Oh boy. Should he tell Dave they asked him to come too. Probably not right now while he's angry.]

Naw man, I think you're going to be the "compare what you can be" of that equation. You're a good looking guy there isn't any denying that.

[Hah.] Anyways. I brought AJ, Apple Cider, and Coke. Your food is hot as shit right now so it's prime for the eating.

[It might be best not to mention it at all.]

Excuse you, Egbert. I do not look like model material. [He doesn't exactly dress the part, that's for sure.]

Let's just eat and I can take you back like why you came here for.

[Yeah, he might just show up and just do his job.]

I mean it's whatever you think dude. [None of them in that place but Rose and Kanaya dress cleanly every day.]

Good idea. But I didn't just come here to watch you do your thing. We can watch a movie too. [Because John was prepared and brought over the classics.]

[At least everyone else dresses presentable. Dave just doesn't care. He only cleans up for clients or important meets, but it's too much work otherwise.]

John Egbert. Trying to get me to go on a date. You sly beast you. [Going to grab his food. Pigging out time is a now.]

[John dresses the part, his hair might suffer. But what do you do when your hair naturally goes ninety-eleven directions? Nothing that's what.]

Oh Dave. Oh no. Woe is me. You've caught me red handed. What will I do? I guess you might just have to accept a movie date with me since I am so sly, right? [John wasn't even sure if he was being serious right now.]

I guess I will. I assume you brought movies already like the sneaky ass you are. [Dave says this attractively while taking a bite out of his chalupa.]

Of course I did. I brought horror movies, romantic comedies, action. Whatever you could dream of watching, almost.

[John snarfs his crunchy taco. Fuck yes.]

Are they all terrible like your usual taste in movies?

[Totally going to chug that apple juice like he hasn't had apple juice in fucking years and is in need of it.]

I picked only the most terrible for you, and brought apple cider so we can laugh at how terrible they are.

[He was so fucking prepared. See?]

Why can't you ever bring actual good movies for once?

[Dave finishes his chalupa before he started to head to the backroom.] Come on, loser.

Because drinking wouldn't be any fun at all if the movies weren't terrible.

[He finishes and follows Dave to the back room. Yes, this is the best room ever.]

You're going to kill me with alcohol poisoning one day.

[Dave switches on the light. The entire ceiling has string attached with photos clipped to them with clothespin. There are tables laid out covered with prints. The place was fairly organized, given Dave's messy habits.

The door adjacent was a revolving door that lead into his darkroom.] Knock yourself out.

I don't think I will. That really depends on how much of that apple cider you have later, and how strongly it's spiked.

[Dave knows what John likes. John is liking this room. There are more photos in here than there were last time and dear jesus did he love seeing Dave's freelance photography anytime he could get the chance.]

Not even two steps in this room and I'm already knocked out. This is impressive.

[Dave rolled his eyes behind his shades, walking over to the table to inspect his prints. Those were probably his most recent ones.]

Most of them is just shit I do on my free time. [There were a hell lot of candid shots hung up.]

[longwinded]

[No stop rolling your eyes Dave, John is extremely amused and he will hear no more bullcrap about how these are just things Dave is doing in his free time. Because whoa this room is full.]

How do you even take pictures this awesome. That's one thing I never got from a photography class, I tried my damndest. I finished the program but I am by far a really shitty photographer.

One hundred percent talent, bitch. I don't know. I just point and shoot whatever grabs my attention.

[If John inspects any of the photos very carefully. He'll find that there are some of John. Actually, John will probably be the person that shows up the most in the photos if there are any recognizable faces in them.]

There's a lot of things that make a good photo, you know.

[longwinded]

Things actually grab your attention? [John teases at Dave more often than he should.]

Like what? I could show you some of my work. But it's absolutely horrendous and I've thought about using it as a fire starter before. Guess everyone isn't One hundred percent talent.

[John is inspecting them, and he thinks that may be a photo of him. but nah, it must be a vaguely similar guy because why would he even capture Dave's attention. He's boring as fuck, and not that attractive.]

It depends from person to person. Subject matter. Lighting. Technique can only take you so far. If it means something to you, then it isn't a bad photo, is it? [That was surprisingly strange to hear from Dave, considering he never mentions emotional attachment to anything.]

Right, then who is going to edit for you? Don't even say anyone else. You know only I can do the job you want.

[He looks back at the pictures again. Still vaguely wondering why the clothing and shoes and was that an eye? Looked so familiar. Nah nope nada, John is going to ignore that thought.] You're right, I guess. I just need to be more confident. I suppose.

Yeah, I'm done.

I can do it myself, you know.

[Even if it meant making his tight schedule even tighter.] This is a man eat man world, John. Gotta take it or pack your bags.

Come on. I need to get wasted because I know I'm not going to enjoy tomorrow.

[longwinded]

My bags are unpacked, and I'm not going anywhere. Thank you very much.

[He snickers.] Let's be honest, I practically won the spot for your best processor.

[And so John exits the room and heads back to the kitchen where the alcoholic apple cider awaits them. He's sure if they run out of that Dave has something too.]

We're all expendable to some extent. [Dave is like the hugest pessimist.] It's better not to get too attached because you don't know if you'll get the boot or if they will.

That doesn't mean there isn't someone who could surpass you or you'll find someone who'll catch your eye.

[Dave just follows. Something about his words seemed off. Like for a moment, he wasn't referring to their job so much.] What movies did you bring this time.

[longwinded]

[Unfortunately John is already too attached. He loves his job, and the people he works with. He does slightly catch onto that last part. He tries to not look intrigued.]

Mega Piranha, Blind Fury, Con Air, and Snakes on a Train. We're going to need to get wasted by the time we watch Blind Fury.
